André Loranger is currently the Assistant Chief Statistician for Strategic Data Management, Methods and Analysis. He is also Statistics Canada’s Chief Data Officer responsible for the overall stewardship of the organization’s information data holdings.
André, an economist with an M.A. (Economics) degree from the University of Ottawa, began his career in the public service at Statistics Canada in 1997 where he spent most of his career compiling National Accounts. Prior to his current position, André was the Director of Producer Prices Division from 2008 to 2012 and the Director General of the Macroeconomic Statistics Branch from 2012 to June 2013. More recently, he was the Assistant Chief Statistician for Economic Statistics responsible for the key economic indicators (CPI, GDP, etc.) produced by Statistics Canada.
In recent years, André has been involved in international projects related to economic statistics. He was a member of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Environmental-Economic Accounting, the United Nations Expert Group on International Trade and Economic Globalization Statistics, the United Nations Expert Group on the Future of Economic Statistics and a number of international statistical working groups. André is currently a member of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Big Data and Data Science for Official Statistics and the co-chair of the United Nations Network of Economic Statisticians.
Sanjiv is the Head of Methods and Research Engagement including the key operational link between the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE), a successful five-year £7m programme and now extended for another year.
Sanjiv gained a BSc Honours Degree in Mathematics from Royal Holloway College, University of London before working in the private sector (as a stockbroker and a retail manager) and then the public sector. Sanjiv joined the then ONS and over many years has developed a unique blend of knowledge and experience gained by working in various posts across the UK Economic Accounts (including national accounts, financial accounts, regional accounts, environmental accounts, informal economy, business registers and business surveys, etc.). Sanjiv’s span also covers developing various thematic accounts such as aircraft, construction, education, energy, health, insurance, sport, tourism, etc. Sanjiv has covered a wide-range of conceptual development, practical compilation, pushing through EU statistical legislation and leading the introduction and implementation of many new initiatives improving UK economic statistics.

Sanjiv was the Chief Editor of the UN Handbook on Supply and Use Tables, Input-Output Tables with Extensions and Applications published in 2018.
She studied a bachelor’s degree in economics at the UNAM, a master's degree in economics at El Colegio de México, and a doctorate in economic history at Harvard University. In 2002, her doctoral thesis was recognized with the Alexander Gershenkron Award by the Economic History Association of the United States.
Between 1998 and 2018, she was a professor - researcher at El Colegio de México. Her publications include books, compilations, book chapters, and articles in specialized magazines on issues of comparative economic development, industrialization, and trade policy. In Mexico, she has taught courses and seminars at UNAM, UAM, UABC, and ITESM (Mexico City campus) and has been a visiting professor at the University of Chicago and the University of California San Diego.
From December 1st, 2018 to December 31st, 2020, she served as Minister of Economy of the Federal Government, becoming the first woman to hold that position in the history of the country. She implemented the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada, and she completed the modernization of the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union, as well as the Continuity Agreement with the United Kingdom. During her term in office, the Law of Industrial Property Protection was modernized and the Law of General Taxes on Imports and Exports was updated. In terms of official norms, the legal framework was renewed with the issuance of the Law of Quality Infrastructure.
For the period 2021-2028, she is appointed by the plenum of the Senate of the Republic and by the President of the Mexican Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as a member of the INEGI´s Governing Board. A year later, she was ratified as president of our Institute by the constitutional representative, to cover the period from 2022-2027, and thus, becoming the first woman to hold that position.
